We all want to choose safer beauty products, free of toxins and other harmful ingredients. However, this isn’t always an easy road. First, not all brands are great about transparency. They may share the “key ingredients,” but not the hard truth of harmful ingredients they include. Second, not all “safe” beauty products are actually effective. Sure, you feel great buying that 100% organic cleanser, but if it doesn’t work, chances are, you’re going back to your tried and true cleanser that works. So what do you do? I’ve been here! But, today I want to share with you safer beauty products that work – finally! But before I do, let me set this up for you…
I have spent the last year thinking about my “why” behind fitandhealthymomlife.com
….I want it to be more than just a weekly blog post
…I want it to be more than a pretty Instagram picture every day
…I want it to be incredibly resourceful and helpful to you
…I want it to be a tool you can use, to get tips and tricks to make a healthy lifestyle doable without it being super time intensive and overwhelming
My passion is to make, healthy living realistic for your busy life – to provide you with easy mom hacks and share with you clean and safe products you can trust.
So, I have some exciting news….
I have always had skin issues, and for years, I went to a dermatologist and tried so.many.products. I didn’t feel comfortable taking medicine or trying super harsh products, so we reached a point of exhaustion. I remember my dermatologist looking at me and saying, “Well, water cleans your face too, maybe just stick with that.” So, that is what I have done. For years I have used water, while intermittently trying a new product that I hoped would work. It never did, until 2 1/2 years ago…
A friend of mine introduced me to Beautycounter. I did some research on the company, and loved their mission, and the ingredients they vowed to never include in their products. I decided to give it a try, and bought their nourishing cream cleanser and thank you Jesus, it actually worked for me! I was truly shocked – I finally found a line of safer beauty products that work!
Fast forward to March of this year. This same friend of mine that introduced me to Beautycounter, approached me about partnering with the company. My initial reaction (to myself) was no, I can’t! I don’t sell things. Not 1% of my being is a sales person. However, the “why” behind my blog is to share products and resources, to make a safer and healthy lifestyle doable for moms. I personally use Beautycounter, and love that they are both safe and effective. So, I would almost be doing a disservice to you, if I didn’t share their products with you. So, I said yes. I said I would partner with Beautycounter. And right away, I started thinking about all of the information I wanted to share with you!
Did You Know…
The skin is the largest organ in your body and anything you put on your body, absorbs into your blood stream within 26 seconds. Yikes!
Here’s a few shocking facts:
- The US has not passed a law to regulate the ingredients in personal care products since 1938
- The Food and Drug Administration does not require that cosmetic ingredients or products be approved before they go on the market, and FDA has no power to recall a product from the market
- The European Union has banned nearly 1,400 ingredients from cosmetic and personal care products
- Canada has banned less than 600
- United States has banned 30 ingredients (ONLY 30)!!!
- More than 80,000 chemicals are registered for use in consumer products and about 10,500 of them are used in the cosmetic industry (Most of these do not have any health or safety data, especially those ingredients used in beauty. This means, they have not been tested to see what their reaction is to our bodies). Can we say, scary?!
The Never List
The mission of Beautycounter is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Because of this, Beautycounter has banned the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals, setting a new health and safety standard – all while ensuring their products perform, and that they are as indulgent as any luxe shampoo, lipstick, or oil in the market.
You can view the entire Never List here.
Action Behind the Mission
Beautycounter doesn’t just make safer products, they actually advocate for more health-protective laws because they believe all products and companies should be held to a higher standard.
For 5 years they have used the company’s anniversary in March, as an occasion to make a coordinated, concerted effort to tell our legislators that the time has come for change.
On March 18, 2018, Beautycounter took consultants from across the U.S. to Capitol Hill and held 100 meetings with representatives from all 50 states, urging their support for the Personal Care Product Safety Act.

What Products Does Beautycounter Offer?
My Favorite Products
It’s hard to narrow down my “favorites” because there are so many great products. But here is a list of what I am currently loving!
What Beautycounter means for fitandhealthymomlife.com
Part of my apprehension with partnering with Beautycounter was that I never want to come across as sell-y, or even worse, fake, to my readers. Please know with every sincere part of me, I mean it when I say – every brand I ever write about is a brand I believe in and actually USE myself!
I will still be sharing other products with you that I incorporate into my Beautycounter routine (like my tried and true rosehip oil). But, I love that Beautycounter is a one stop shop! I don’t have to spend hours researching safe products that actually work. I know what I am getting with Beautycounter. I know they will always prohibit the use of 1,500 (and counting) harmful ingredients. I know their body wash will always be safe for my kids and their makeup is free of harmful metals and toxins.
I will be doing some in depth posts in the future, because there is a lot to cover, but I hope this post gave you a good overview of what Beautycounter is, and why I believe in this company so much!
If you have any questions at all about any products, please feel free to comment below or email me directly and I would be happy to talk about them with you. In the meantime…
